A notebook computer, also known as a laptop, is a small, mobile and compact device which has an average weight of eighteen pounds based on material, size and technology. Here, I would like to present a brief overview of notebook computer features and other functionality regarding personal and professional usage.
Physical features of notebook
The structure and body is based on the following characteristics.
Size: It comes in different weights and screen size including lights and thin screens.
Hot keys and shortcut: It contains handy icons and little buttons located in the keyboard for quick functionality.
Peripherals: keyboards and mouse are the main input mediums for notebook connected externally to it. Track pad embedded in notebook is used for the mouse system.
Power and functions
Ram
Ram is associated with the speed and memory of note book. It carries different functions and tasks. It does multithreading (opening various programs at one time), handle complex functions like development tools and video games. Usually the Ram is 1GB to 3 GB space. Professionals need high performance machines which have a 4GB or more space of Rams.
Storage Space
The hard disk works like a data warehouse in a notebook computer. It is recommended to have 250 to 300 GB disk space in your notebook computer. If you want to make it a media or entertainment hub for movies, photos, and videos, then 500 GB is essential for this capacity.
Networking
In notebook computers, you have both wireless and wired connections for internet connectivity. Wired connection is activated via an Ethernet port. Recently designed new notebook models have built-in antennas of wireless technology so that they can connect or detect wireless networks easily. Another advanced trend in notebook computer networking is connecting to networks wireless broadband like 3G and 4G through a built-in antenna.
Network features
Bluetooth - This wireless protocol is helpful for data transfer between two or more devices of a paired type. In addition, it can be used to connect two networks having Bluetooth compatible functionality, especially headsets and cell phones.
HD-DVD and Blu-Ray
The ability to play HD and Blu-Ray media is now becoming popular in recent notebook models. However, to support this media, the notebook screen should support 1080 pixel resolution, a standard to display such type of contents.
In discussing notebook features and specifications, you must not forget the price. It is all based on the price and budget you plan to spend in buying a reliable and functional notebook.
From MP3 players to voice recording and wireless adapters; every device contains a USB port for data transfer. Some people do not know how many USB ports they need for data transfer. At least, 3 to 4 are good for efficient functionality. Also make sure that the USB technology is using 2.9 technologies because it is an ideal option for fast data transfer. 1 LAN port, 1 Ethernet port, 1 PCI slot, and I headphone jack port; these are common ports needed for different applications. Furthermore, if you work on video or camera equipment, you must have a fire Wire port.
This simple and concise overview of the notebook computer will help you to choose the best machine for your personal and professional usage.
